AI won’t take skilled trades jobs

While many white collar jobs are at risk of being eliminated by the rise of AI tech, skilled trades jobs are likely to require human touch into the future.

A recent Goldman Sachs study found that generative AI tools could, in fact, impact 300 million full-time jobs worldwide, which could lead to a "significant disruption" in the job market.

Jobs that are safe from AI include:

  • 👷🏽 Cement mason

  • 🔌 Electrical installer/repair

  • 🩺 Nurse

  • 🪚 Carpenter

  • 🖌️ Painter

  • 🔧 Plumber

None of the highest paying AI proof jobs require a college degree

Jobs that are most likely to replaced, on the other hand, include:

  • Media jobs (advertising, content creation, technical writing, journalism)

  • Legal industry jobs (paralegals, legal assistants)

  • Finance jobs (Financial analysts, personal financial advisors)

  • Accountants

  • Service jobs (cashiers, drivers)

  • Tech jobs (Coders, computer programmers, software engineers, data analysts)

As we think about the future of work, and the particular jobs, or industries that are at a higher risk of automation replacing them, we do think it is those sort of lower-skilled, repetitive tasks or jobs that don't lend themselves as much to those uniquely human skills like creative thinking, critical thinking, empathy, compassion, leadership, almost like those soft skills, things that can't sort of be as easily replicated or repeated.

Today’s workers and future workers will need to embrace “lifelong learning” in order to keep pace with changing technology.
